Welcome to the Australian Curriculum: Classroom Approaches website. We support Australian teachers in their curriculum design work, providing ideas and inspiration for innovative teaching and learning resources to maximise student learning and engagement across the four learning areas of English, History, Science and Mathematics.

This website features the work of Nicole Mockler and Debra Talbot from the University of Sydney, previously published as the Australian Curriculum: Classroom Approaches book series (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). The series integrates contemporary approaches to curriculum design and pedagogy for students in Years 7 to 10. Using the Understanding by Design approach to curriculum design, the series supports the incorporation of student-centred pedagogies, differentiation, authentic assessment, inquiry, ICLTs, and a focus on the development of literacy and numeracy in context. It includes 'worked example' units and templates for teachers to design or tailor their own units to meet their students' needs. The books are now out of print, and so we have made the original units (updated to incorporate the Australian Curriculum Version 9 Content Descriptions) freely available on this website. Click "Our Approach" to learn more about our curriculum design process.
The Australian Curriculum: Classroom Approaches series, published in 2013, integrated contemporary approaches to curriculum design and pedagogy for Years 7 to 10. Each book featured background on the theory and practice of curriculum design, a series of units of work linked to the Australian Curriculum, with associated Rich Tasks and rubrics, and do-it-yourself curriculum design templates. These resources have been made available on this website.
